ERA REAL ESTATE SHARES MOTHERLY ADVICE

Words of Wisdom Gleaned from ERA® Brokers and Agents Inform the Homebuying Process

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (May 10, 2012) – At least once in our lifetime - perhaps in our teens, 20s or even yesterday - we have all rolled our eyes because mom offered her unsolicited, yet annoyingly accurate, advice. But most of the time, mom really does know best and much of what she preached can be practiced in life as well as in milestones such as home buying.

This Mother's Day, ERA Real Estate brokers and agents are paying homage to these inspiring women by sharing the maternal words of wisdom that has guided them in their lives and their careers.

As long as you live under my roof, you'll listen to my rules! Home ownership is a game changer. Gone are the days of forbidden posters in your room and rental company charges for re-painting your apartment walls. When you buy a house, make it your home with changes and personal touches that suit you and your family. Of course mom may not be thrilled with your choice of tangerine walls but this time around, she will likely stay mum because she is proud you made a smart investment.

As ERA Evergreen Real Estate broker Kristy Gonzalez shared, "My mother taught me that home is about family. I was never exactly sure what she meant, but I have now been able to experience it firsthand. To me, buying a home is an investment in your family; providing them a foundation of love and walls full of happy memories."

If it is meant to be, it is meant to be. Record low listing prices and the possibility of bidding wars can emotionally drain a home buyer. It is important not to get too attached to a property until the closing is complete. If you do not get the house you had your heart set on, you weren't meant to have it and there is something better on the market. As mom would say, everything happens for a reason.

"My mother taught me to be patient," reflected Stephanie Bellanova, ERA Central Realty Group broker and manager. "When you take a moment to step back, allow the pieces to fall as they may. Sometimes the answer becomes clear and things go in the direction you need them to without being the force that pushes it."

A penny saved is a penny earned. Take advantage of the current low mortgage interest rates now, because as rates rise, your monthly payments increase. Now is the time to invest in your future.

"My advice to my children would be to buy real estate," said mother and ERA King Real Estate partner and sales executive Anna King. "It will be, has been and will continue to be the best investment. Find a REALTOR® you can trust and buy real estate."

Conventional wisdom may not always apply. ERA Broder Group real estate agent Evan Berman offers this anecdote. "My mom encouraged me to do an open house on Mother's Day because 'what else could a mother want on Mother's Day more than a new house!' So I did the open house. Thirty buyers arrived and I picked up two new clients for other properties."

Get all your ducks in a row. Pre-approval mortgage processes are stringent so planning your work and working your plan is essential before starting the buying process. You will be grateful mom raised a planner!

The early bird gets the worm. Real estate involves life-changing decisions but procrastination will not get you anywhere. It is a buyer's market - grab those low list prices while you can.

So to all of those mothers who have said, "Someday, you'll thank me for this," you were right.
