Welcome to Create-a-Room!
This guide is designed to give you a brief overview of Create-a-Room to help you get started.

Parts of the Screen

Main Menu
Use the menu to save, load or print your room. With the Floor Plan menu, you can customize your room or even import floor plans from ERA.com. Most items on the main menu are also available from the toolbar.

Category List
Click on a name in the category list to select furniture in that category. For example, to add a dining room table and chairs, click on "Dining Area"

Furniture List
Click on furniture with your mouse cursor to select it, then hold the mouse button down and drag the furniture to a new location to move it.

Add Object
Click the Add Object button to add the highlighted furniture to the room.

Dashboard
Use the dashboard to navigate around the room. Click forward or back arrow to walk forwards or backwards. Click left or right arrow to rotate to the left or right. Click the outer left and right arrow to sidestep to the left or right.

3D Window
Click on furniture with your mouse to select it, then hold the mouse button down and drag the furniture to a new location to move it.

Toolbar
Use the toolbar buttons to save and load rooms, print, and rotate or delete furniture.

Toolbar Controls

Creates a new room.
Saves the current room to your My ERA.com profile.
Loads a previously saved room from your My ERA.com profile.
Prints the current room, exactly as displayed in the 3D window.
Opens the help documentation.
Rotates the selected furniture item counter-clockwise. Holding shift while pressing the rotate button will allow you to rotate in smaller increments.
Rotates the selected furniture item clockwise. Holding shift while pressing the rotate button will allow you to rotate in smaller increments.
Deletes the selected furniture item.
Toggles the camera between walk mode and overhead mode.
Allows you to customize the wall color.
Allows you to customize the floor\carpet color.
Toggles the time of day between dawn, day, dusk and night.

Placing Furniture
To add a furniture item to the room:

  • Select a furniture category from the category list. For example, if you want to place a couch, click on the words "Chairs & Couches" in the list.
  • Click on the picture of the furniture you want to place in the room.
  • Place the furniture in the room by clicking the "Add Object" button, or by double-clicking the picture of the furniture in the list.
  • To move the furniture, click on the furniture in the 3D window and drag it to the desired location.
  • To rotate the furniture, click on the Rotate button in the toolbar.

Importing Floor Plans
Some homes listed on ERA.com have electronic floor plans available. If a home on ERA.com has the floor plan icon next to it, the floor plan for that home can be imported into Create-a-Room.

To import a floor plan, from the main menu click on Floor Plan, then click on Import. Create-a-Room will prompt you for the ERA Express Listing code. Enter the Express Listing Code found on ERA.com in the property details--or provided by your real estate agent--for the home you are interested in, then click Ok. This will import the floor plan, and you can begin decorating!

Keyboard Controls
When the 3D window is active (has the focus), you can use the keyboard to navigate around the room:
