Sales Associate Profile I grew up in Spring Green. My parents were outdoor enthusiasts, and I've been hunting and fishing with them since I was three. We never came back from our jaunts empty-handed. Dad always knew where to find apples, or hickory nuts...he knew which islands had the most asparagus and where to get the best watercress. Invariably, we'd get lost - or as Dad said, we'd 'take a short cut.' Climbing over wooded hills and through meadows - even being chased by a bull - we'd eventually stop to rest, just look around, listen and talk. It's no wonder I grew up with an intense appreciation of this area. I've seen my community change. I remember places and people that my younger siblings can't relate to. (Ask Lorraine about the time my pet lizard got loose in the Royal Blue grocery store - now the Country Sampler.) I remember buying penny candy and five-cent Cokes from Doris and Hilda at the Correll Drug Store (the building is now the ERA Country Land office!). I opened my first savings account at what is now Peg Miller's home. At La Crosse State University I was an Art and Drama major, spending summers either at UW-Madison or Stevens Point. I really wanted to be on the 'doing' end of art instead of the teaching end, but it wasn't financially feasible. (It takes money to be a starving artist.)After school I got married and had two terrific kids, Dana (now in New York) and Grant, who lives in Milwaukee. I have two beautiful grandchildren. My children are probably the biggest reason I came to work in real estate. A working single parent, I was having trouble making ends meet. A friend suggested real estate, pointing out that my income would result directly from the amount and quality of the work I did. That really appealed to me - and still does. I began my career 13 years ago with a Madison firm, to pack in some fast-paced training and experience. I was named Rookie of the Year in 1987 and was consistently in the top 15% of my rather large company, which was wonderful. But in 1988, when asked tojoin ERA Country Land Realty, I jumped at the chance! To be able to work in my hometown with a company well known for its professionalism and service was a wonderful opportunity. I married Dale Pforr, one of the company's owners, in 1994, and by doing so I inherited two wonderful stepsons. Bart is 21 and going to school in Minnesota, and Nate, my Black Belt, is 16 and lives at home with us. We have a lovely home on the WisconsinRiver just outside of town. It has become our favorite place to be.
