The lifeblood of any and all small communities is small businesses and their owners. Here in Northwest NJ, there are numerous small town merchants who are well worth knowing and supporting. While no one (especially me!) will deny that shopping for the basics on line is easy and economical, nothing can substitute for the relationship that comes with supporting those who own a local business. I have lived in Hope for a while now and I can attest to the good value and the friendships that result in patronizing these businesses.
We are super fortunate to have a range of great small business concerns within an easy-to-reach radius. Here are examples of some of our local merchants. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
Hope, New Jersey
Hope township was settled by the Moravians in 1769. It is known for its charming stone houses. The Inn at Millrace Pond, which is a warm and lovely restaurant and bed and breakfast concern, is an original grist mill and well worth the visit. Only 65 miles from the heart of the Upper West Side of Manhatttan, it is a world away with its farms, outdoor flower and produce markets and bucolic meadows. While Hope is relatively small, it contains some charming stores. Here is a bit about two. More to come.........
331 Hight St.
This is a fun place for anyone looking for unique furnishings and artisanal items. You never know what Charley and Lisa might find, fix up or bring in. You need to check this place out every few days to make sure you don't miss anything. You can find them on Facebook and on their webpage. Open Wednesdays through Sunday, 11-5
339 High St.
The Nest is another wonderful treasure trove. You never know what you will find in this constantly updated and refreshed store that sells unique vintage home furnishings. You can find them on Facebook and on their webpage. Open Wednesdays through Sunday, 11-5 PM
These are just two of the local stores that sell things you will not find anywhere else. They are part of the character and beauty of this small town. I am doing my best to include as many as I know and use. I am listing them alphabetically so as to present them fairly. In my next posting, I will be covering additional special businesses in Hope. Check them out and, if possible, stop in. I think you will enjoy the discovery.
