Every July 1, I celebrate another year as a REALTOR®—a career that has become one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable chapters of my life. My journey to real estate has taken me through technology, entrepreneurship, immigration, family business, and ultimately back to the profession that had fascinated me since childhood.
I was born and raised in the Philippines as a Chinese-Filipino, growing up in a multilingual and multicultural environment. I was the third child and first son in a family of six siblings. My parents were teachers before eventually entering business—first retail and later real estate.
Some of my earliest memories involve sitting around the dinner table listening to my parents discuss property deals and investment opportunities. As I grew older, I even helped type purchase contracts using typewriters and carbon paper—long before personal computers existed. Real estate fascinated me, but it wasn't my first career.
Following my father's advice to study hard, graduate, gain experience, and eventually build a family business, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Philippines. After graduation, I passed both the Electrical Engineering and Real Estate Broker licensing exams but chose to pursue opportunities in technology.
I began selling microcomputers when the industry was still emerging, eventually partnering with my younger sister to establish a computer company for our family. We secured distribution rights for microprocessor-based multi-user computer systems and helped small businesses embrace new technology. Later, members of my family moved to San Francisco to expand the business, and I eventually joined them. More than three decades later, the company continues to thrive in the Philippines under the leadership of my sisters.
In the mid-1990s, while living in Fremont, I witnessed the commercial emergence of the Internet and launched an Internet technology company. We began with hosting and server colocation before transitioning into database-driven web applications.
After more than two decades in high technology, I felt it was time for a change. Around 2005, I finally answered the calling that had been with me since childhood: real estate. When I told my parents I planned to follow in their footsteps, they were proud—and my mother was especially excited to offer advice.
Many people thought I was entering real estate at the wrong time, during a recession. My broker disagreed, believing challenging markets teach agents how to truly master the business without shortcuts. I persevered, thrived, and became the REALTOR® I am today.
My success comes from three important influences: my technology background, which helps me embrace tools that improve service; growing up in a family where real estate was part of everyday conversation; and, most importantly, my genuine love for what I do.
I love hearing the excitement in a buyer's voice when they find the perfect home, seeing a child's joy over a new bedroom, celebrating an investor's successful closing, helping families through important transitions, and witnessing the appreciation of clients as their vision becomes reality.
I am honored to be part of my clients' real estate journeys—but even more grateful to become a part of their lives....
