A hidden little gem that has the best crab cakes and bread pudding in town is Mikey's Grill, located in Hoover. "Mikey" worked as a sous chef at Fox Valley Restaurant for over 18 years. He was noted as one of Birmingham's top five hottest young chefs in the Birmingham Magazine in 1998. In 2010, Mikey and his sister Melissa, who also worked at Fox Valley Restaurant as the Manager, fulfilled their dream of opening a restaurant - Mikey's Grill, which is one of my favorite date night locations in town. less

Riverchase Country Club has been the centerpiece of the Riverchase Community and a Birmingham tradition since 1976. In 1967 engineer-developer, John Harbert saw the tremendous potential of this beautiful piece of property and took an option on two large tracts of land. He began planning Riverchase, and in 1974 the Harbert Corporation combined forces with Equitable Insurance to form the Harbert - Equitable Joint Venture. Together they developed the 3,000 acres, which now surround Riverchase Country Club. Riverchase Parkway opened in 1975, the first home was completed in 1976, and the community focal point, Riverchase Country Club. 11 yrs after opening, the Club was purchased by the membership from the joint venture and today operates as a full service member-owned club. Riverchase Country Club offers the challenge of an 18-hole Joe Lee design golf course, 15 tennis courts, a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool, state of the art fitness center, and dining opportunities featuring both fine and casual offerings. The Club offers facilities perfect for various size groups from small gatherings to large elaborate wedding receptions. The golf course opened in 1976. The Club has been fortunate to host such celebrities as President Gerald Ford, Michael Jordan, Bob Hope, and Charlie Boswell (The Midnight Golfer). Today the course measures 6,842 yards featuring Bermuda Fairways and Bent Grass Greens. RCC golf course continues to be the venue for many national, state, and local events. Just to name a few events they host - US Open qualifying, Alabama State Amateur Championship, Alabama Senior Amateur, SEC Women's Championship, and Junior Golf Championships. Since 1976, RCC has built a reputation as one of the premiere tennis programs in the Birmingham area. Hundreds of men and women actively compete in league tennis at Riverchase Country Club. The tennis facility has expanded to its current configurations of 3 hard courts and 12 rubico courts, of which 7 provide lights for night play. Has one of the most active tennis programs in the Birmingham area. Junior programs, both men and women participate in USTA league. In addition, members participate in numerous social and competitive tennis events throughout the year such as Taco Tennis. Western Hoover is growing in many ways! Road projects are in various stages, to facilitate smooth traffic flows for residents and visitors. The new Stadium Trace Village shopping center is under construction, with an ALDI Supermarket already open. Additional retail and dining options are sure to make this area popular. Upgrades to the Met Complex are nearly complete. The $80 million dollar project adds fields, as well as a spectacular multi-use facility, the Finley Center. The SEC Baseball tournament, hosted annually at the Hoover Met, is always a huge draw for merchants and hotels in the area. Come out to western Hoover, and see all of the good things going on! less
