The Muskegon River is Federally designated as a wild river. The Riverwalk allows you to slip into nature without getting too far off the beaten path. Well maintained and clear of debris. Watching tubers, kayaks and canoes while we wet a line at one of the decks over the river hoping for a fish or two is so relaxing. As we head up to the Trestle Bend Park in the the fall the colors and views of the river are wonderful and a Kodak moment! Attending the Annual Art Festival we pack a picnic lunch and a pleasant stroll to the tennis courts and softball fields. A game of Frisbie golf is a popular stop for the family. The Riverwalk joins the White Pine Trail at Paris, Michigan and the DNR Fishery - good to take your bikes for that distance is a few miles North of Big Rapids. Make sure to purchase some food for the fish so you can feed them - kids will have a ball! Always see hikers, bicyclists, couples and families with strooler's on the trail. High school and College runners find the trail to be a great place to work out on. Bridges cross the Muskegon that allows for wonderful views of the activity on the river. After we complete our walk either lunch or dinner is in order and enjoy The Rock on campus at Ferris State University downtown is Schubergs for their award winning burger and loads of shelled peanuts or just on the south side of Big Rapids and the college campus is Narvals Mediterranean Grille.
