Of course it's also home to the El Paso County Fair, held every July. The fairgrounds is also the location for the El Paso County Speedway, a 1/4 mile dirt tract featuring several classes of race vehicles. It's a family friendly environment and a fun, inexpensive date night. Calhan also has an amazing and very unique open space called Paint Mines Interpretive Park. The Paint Mines were named because of the colorful clay that the Native Americans gathered to use to make paint. It's a stunningly beautiful place to tour! There is evidence of habitation going back as far as 9,000 years ago. There's about 4 miles of trails to explore, with signs detailing some of the wonderful features. And best of all, it's free!
