Springhaven Inn, from around 1889 or earlier, is redolent with history. In the late 19th century, it stood on the corner of Globe Road and what is now Main Street, Blowing Rock where it was a stagecoach turn station. It was a place where the horses were watered, fed and often changed on the way to the next destination, Linville. Globe Road was the only access from Lenoir, at foot of the mountains to the mountaintop villages. Since its beginnings, the cottage has been offering hospitality to Blue Ridge travelers from around world. The cottage has been a boarding house, a bed and breakfast, a popular restaurant in the 1960s and a residence at one time to the Spring family. For the past several years, Springhaven has operated as a rental property. Now, Springhaven seeks a new destiny. The cottage was moved long ago from the front to the foot of the sloping grassy lot.
