Hillyer Place offers a rich array of architectural styles from primarily the first decades of the 20th century. Notwithstanding the pleasing diversity of forms, much of this block is unified by the use of brick in the presentation of the residential facades. This townhouse owes a great deal of its charm to the work of English architect Charles Voysey. While there is no record that the builder of this house directly emulated the work of that celebrated architect (1857-1941), there are many decorative elements found here that comprised a part of Voysey’s unique vision. The composition feels like an English country house, for which Voysey was best known. The choice of leaded glass windows evokes the historical revivalist sentiment which was popular in the United States at the time.
