Once upon a time, a girl from Chicago inherited her aunt’s condo in SE Cedar Rapids, IA. Having flipped properties in her past, the niece excitedly came to Cedar Rapids to check it out. It was an 896 sq ft condo with 2 bedrooms, a bath and a patio in a quiet, private wooded area off 1st Ave SE, but close to everything—restaurants, park, shopping, grocery store, main thoroughfares etc. She excitedly saw a vision of the finished product and dug into ripping out floor coverings throughout, discarding old appliances, removing the dated popcorn ceilings, gutting the bathrooms and kitchen, painting and shopping for new materials. It was going to be GREAT! A few months in, she had to pause to have spinal surgery. It did not go well. Then there was another surgery…and another.
